Firefighters with Water Tender #88 from the Anna Regina Fire Station yesterday  responded to a call at 9:40hrs that alerted them of a fire at the Essequibo Technical Institute.  The Institute is a Government owned two-store wooden and concrete building located at Anna Regina Industrial Site, Essequibo Coast. The structure measures 66.7 by 13.3 meters, a statement from the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said today.

The fire was supposedly caused by a breakdown in an electrical installation which resulted in much arcing and sparking that ignited the control panel causing it to be severely damaged. Firefighters utilized a 4.5kg dry chemical fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and brought the situation under control, the statement said.
