A miner is now a remanded prisoner after being charged with the attempted murder of his sister as a result of an alcohol-fueled fight.

The charge against 33-year-old Fitzroy Patrick, of Micobie Village, Potaro River, alleges that on September 24 at Light and Lamaha streets, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ashana Patrick with intent to murder her.

The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

He was then remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until October 19, when full disclosure of evidence against him is expected to be made in court.

The court heard that on the day in question, at about 23:30hrs, the defendant and the victim were at a two-storey house, located at Lot 9D Light and Lamaha streets, where they were drinking on the verandah. However, an argument broke out between them.

As a result, Fitzroy allegedly started to cuff the woman about her body and then lifted her and threw her over the rail of the verandah, resulting in both of them toppling over, with Ashana falling to the ground on her back. It was also said that blood was running from her ears, eyes and mouth.

The court heard that the victim was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), from where she was transferred to the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Disease Hospital due to the inadequacy of beds in the ICU at the GPH.

The matter was then reported and Patrick was arrested.
