Child critical after mistakenly consuming gramoxone

A four-year-old child is now in critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after she mistakenly consumed gramoxone which was in her parents’ yard on Sunday afternoon.

According to information gathered, Tinesha Shamshundar, 4, of Lot 1 Number 50 Village, was playing in their yard at the time of the incident.

A report from the police explained, that the child’s mother, 23, relayed that on Thursday last she collected a one-litre Pepsi bottle containing Gramoxone from her mother-in-law at Number 70 Village, Corentyne to spray her yard.

She said she stored the bottle in a tire in her goat pen which is located aback of her house.

On Sunday the four-year-old was reportedly playing in the yard during which she ran to her mother and informed her that “she had opened a bottle that was in the goat pen and drank some of the substance.”

The child was immediately rushed her to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where she was examined and transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.

As of yesterday afternoon her condition was listed as critical.

Investigations are continuing.
