Demerara, President XI teams named for senior Inter-County

Selectors have named the Demerara and President XI squads for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board senior inter-county 50-over tournament.

While no fixtures have been released, the competition is expected to get underway from October 10, with national skipper, Leon Johnson leading the Demerara side and Trevon `Bugsy’ Griffith captaining a youthful President’s XI.

Johnson will have the support of senior national openers, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who will also serve as his deputy and Chandrapaul Hemraj. The squad also features national players Tevin Imlach, Akshaya Persaud, Christopher Barnwell and Ronaldo Alimohamed.

Former national youth players, Steven Sankar, Ashmead Nedd, Richie Looknauth, Sachin Singh, Jeremiah Scott and Qumar Torrington are also listed and Derick McCalmont rounds off the squad.

Listed in the reserves are under-19 players, Shamar Yearwood and Alvin Mohabir while Larrel Parks, Anthony Lim, Carlos La Rose and Joshua Persaud complete the list.

The team will be coached by national and Guyana Amazon Warriors assistant coach, Ryan Hercules. Puneet Jaigopaul has been named the manager of the team.

Meanwhile, in the President’s XI side, former West Indies youth sensation and Guyana Amazon Warriors batting all-rounder, Matthew Nandu will be the vice-captain of Griffith’s men.

The squad includes youth players, Mavindra Dindyal, Jonathan Rampersaud, and Zachary Jodah as well as Kwesi Mickle, Garfield Benjamin, Raj Nanan, Ricardo Peters, Avinash Persaud, Akini Adams, Shamar Joseph and Keyron Fraser. Suresh Dhanai and Leo Rayan Ramlakhan are the two reserves. The team will be coached by national head coach, Esuan Crandon while Andre Percival will serve as assistant coach/manager.

President XI will battle Essequibo on Monday at Everest.
