The National Literacy Department of the Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday hosted a Primary School Teachers Jeopardy competition at the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

According to a MoE release yesterday, the event was the third of its kind since being introduced in 2016 with teams of teachers from eight education districts participating in this year’s competitions.

The contestants, the release informed, competed in the quiz game with questions covering a variety of topics mainly from six broad categories: Science, Social Studies, English Language, Mathematics, Literature and School Administration. The first round of the competition consisted of five categories with clues that were valued from 100 to 500 points, which were then doubled in the second round.

After several “intense” rounds, the team of teachers from Region Ten emerged victorious with Region Four in second place and Region Seven taking home the third-place prize.

All other contestants were awarded consolation prizes for their participation while pupils who were in the audience were given opportunities to answer questions and win prizes, the release added.

The winners and runners-up are as follows: Region Ten (1st place) – Yvonne Nazir, Cheryl Wills, and Diane Retemyer; Region Four (2nd place) – Bhanmattie Dewoekmar, Samina Shaw, and Colis Dublin; and Region Seven (3rd place) – Sherlene Bancroft, Anita Embleton, and Eshiva Lake.
