The Ministry of Labour should agree that the law must be respected without fear or favour

Dear Editor,

I read with interest the letter of the Chief Labour Officer, published in the October 12, 2022, Stabroek News. I applaud the Officer for his forthright position though I may suspect he may evoke the ire of Mr. Lincoln Lewis and his Union. I agree that the law is the law and it must be respected without fear or favour. Recognizing the attitude of the Ministry of Labour, I would trust that in all instances where the law is compromised or disregarded, that it takes similar position.

I saw this as I have a relative who was sent home from a leading Government agency. He and his union visited the Ministry and the Ministry agreed that he was entitled to payment for his services. I know his union is fighting for him and his colleagues but I would want to believe that that Ministry, in light of its position to make illegalities publicly known, would do the same for my relative. It cannot be a situation where what’s good for the goose is not good for the gander.

Sincerely,

Yulander Prince
