Dear Editor,
It is interesting what the government has been doing for those breaking the law. A job for someone in jail given by the national security advisor and housing allocations for squatters on Independence Boulevard. Unfortunately, what the government is overlooking are the thousands of law-abiding citizens who are also pursuing jobs and housing. Those in jail and illegally squatting should not be placed at the front of the line and be given priority over our law-abiding citizens. People will start to think that the government prefers those who break the law, and that the PPP/C is more sympathetic to criminals than they are to law abiding citizens.
The outcry of corruption within the current government doesn’t help this developing image. The current administration needs to ensure that the laws of the land are upheld and that there is accountability from the highest office in the land all the way down to the beggar in the street. Rewarding lawlessness and illegal activity will result in an increase in those breaking the law. It is good to help, but it must also be made clear that there are consequences for breaking the law. Deterring such law breaking is necessary, and unfortunately this is a major gap in the government’s current message to the population.
Our nation cannot be successfully administered if the laws of the land are not upheld. CRG looks forward to seeing this serious flaw in the current government corrected as soon as possible.
