Toddler drowns in Pomeroon River

A toddler, left unattended,  drowned in the Lower Pomeroon River yesterday, according to the Guyana Police Force.

The Police said that the incident occurred just about 9:30 am after 21-month old Jeremiah Rodrigues was left at home alone with his two-month-old sibling.

The children’s mother, Dacia Torres, told investigators that she left their Grant Kitty, Lower Pomeroon home just about 8:30 am and went to work a short distance away. About an hour later her sister raised an alarm that Rodrigues was “floating in the trench”.

The toddler’s motionless body was taken out of the water and transported to the Charity Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

An investigation is ongoing.
