Enmore baker dies in accident with gov’t convoy

Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday at about 16:45 hrs on Foulis Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The police say that the accident involved motor pick-up PXX 8090, a vehicle owned by the Guyana Government and attached to the Ministry of Public Works and driven at the time by Denzil Mc Bean, a 30-year-old driver of ‘C’ Field Sophia, Georgetown.

The accident also involved motor car PAC 9344 driven by Dorynl Dublin, a 24-year-old of Haslington, East Coast Demerara;  and pedal cyclist Anil Ramana (deceased), a 44-year-old baker of Logwood (Enmore) Squatting Area, East Coast  Demerara.

Enquiries, police say,  disclosed that the motor pick-up was proceeding west along the southern side of Foulis Public  Road in a convoy which comprised four vehicles with flashlights and sirens when the pedal cyclist (now deceased) rode across the road from north to south in an attempt.

Statement yesterday by Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill

This afternoon, there was a fatal accident on the East Coast of Demerara, resulting in the death of cyclist Mr. Anil Ramanand.
A vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Public Works and another vehicle belonging to a private citizen were involved in that accident. The Ministry’s vehicle was at the time carrying staff who were on official duties.
Earlier tonight, after learning of the accident, Minister Edghill and team visited the reputed wife, mother, brothers, sisters and other relatives of the deceased to extend his sympathies. Minister Edghill pledged his support to the entire family.
There is an active police investigation underway and Minister Edghill has assured the family that there will be no interference or obstruction of this process.
