According to a police press release, the fatal accident occurred on Saturday at about 4.45 pm on the Foulis Public Road, ECD. The accident involved motor pick-up PXX 8090, a vehicle owned by the Government of Guyana and attached to the Ministry of Public Works. It was being  driven by Denzil Mc Bean, 30, of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown. The accident also involved motor car PAC 9344 driven by Dorynl Dublin, 24, of Haslington, East Coast Demerara.

The police said that inquiries disclosed that the motor pick-up was proceeding west along the southern side of the Foulis Public Road in a convoy which comprised four vehicles with flashlights and sirens when  Ramanand rode across the road from the north to south.

The cyclist came into the path of the pick-up, the third vehicle in the convoy. The right side of PXX 8090 collided with the rear  of the pedal cycle, which was then flung onto the northern carriageway into the path of motor car PAC 9344. As a result, the police said that the cyclist fell onto the northern carriageway and was hit by the car.

An Emergency Medical Technician was summoned and Ramanand was examined and pronounced dead by Dr. Etwaroo. The body was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Both drivers were contacted at the scene of the accident and breathalyzer tests conducted on them  showed 0% blood alcohol content.
