Cricket Board seems more interested in consolidation of power than developing the game

Dear Editor,

The West Indies Cricket Team debacle should not surprise anyone though it has hurt many. Mr Ricky Skerritt has promised a post mortem, maybe he can start that post mortem on the board itself.

I have also noted a visit by the Guyana Cricket Board to the President of Guyana, all decked out in their red shirts. Now there is no problem in wearing a red shirt to go and meet the President, or any colour for that matter, but it all seems to be choreographed as if they were there to try and curry favour with the President rather than giving him the assurance that they have a solid strategic plan to move Guyana’s cricket forward.

But if I know our President, he is too smart to be deceived by a photo opportunity and some back slapping. His Excellency has a vision for sports in this country and the cricket board will need to step up to the plate if we are to produce world beaters again.

Also, the President should have asked why they changed the constitution for elections to every four years instead of two years. It would appear that the Guyana Cricket Board is more interested in the consolidation of power, status and prestige and photo opportunities rather than developing the game.

I also wish to commend to members of clubs and boards of Guyana, Mr Christopher Nascimento’s wise counsel that no person should serve for more than five years as the President.

Faithfully,

Ganga Ramdar
