Hopefully Legal Practitioners Committee will begin addressing backlog of complaints expeditiously

Dear Editor,

In response to the letter from the Registrar of the Supreme Court in the November 4th edition of Stabroek News the aggrieved members of the public relied on the information provided by the Legal Practitioners Committee (LPC) Office that the Committee had not been constituted.  Many calls were made to the LPC Office before and after March 2022, and  Ms Juel Campbell from this office said that the LPC had still not been formed. When a subsequent call was made to the LPC office in August/September 2022, a staff member who answered the phone said that Ms Campbell had been recently transferred to another department within the court system and that the LPC had still not been constituted.

Did the Supreme Court notify Ms. Campbell, or any other person at the LPC office that the Committee had been constituted? Was the news of the constitution of the LPC published in the press?

The advertisement in the Stabroek News and Guyana Chronicle about the LPC not having been constituted  was based on the information provided by Ms. Campbell and another staff member from the LPC office. Further, despite an exhaustive search on the internet, no announcement was found about the formation of the LPC in the local newspapers. Maybe the Registrar of the Supreme Court can  advise where and when it was actually published.

Hopefully,  now the LPC has been duly constituted the committee will commence dealing with the backlog of complaints as quickly as possible.

Yours faithfully,
