Satro Medical Centre gets GNBS certified for lab operations

Satro Medical Centre,  located at Colombia, in Region Two, on Thursday received its GYS 170-2009 certification from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) for the operation of its laboratory. 

Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Itwaru, also known as Satro, said achieving the certification for the lab, Home Care Laboratory, was a very momentous occasion for him and his wife, Marina Itwaru.

During the simple ceremony, held inside of the centre, Marina Itwaru, who is Manager of the laboratory, said that since the establishment of the business in 2013 she and her husband had intended upgrading the premise to a diagnostic centre, offering a wide variety of services. Mrs. Itwaru said that the services offered include dialysis, ultra sound examinations, dentistry and laboratory services. 

A diabetic clinic has also been established to treat diabetic patients in the region.

Marina Itwaru is a certified Medical Technologist, while her husband is a certified pharmacist.

Mrs Itwaru noted that the medical centre operates with the vision of being the community health care provider of choice and a trusted leader for promoting health across the region. Itwaru said that she and her husband has invested millions of dollars to purchase state of the art equipment geared at providing a good patient care experience. She thanked all of her customers from within and outside of the region for supporting their business.

Present at the certification ceremony was GNBS Marketing and Communication Officer Lloyd David and Technical Officer Latchman Mootoosammi along with other GNBS staff members.

David said that the certification establishes that Satro’s Home Care Laboratory, of Lot 29 Colombia, is operating a clinical laboratory for tests in biochemistry, hematology, serology and urology, and is conforming to the requirements of the GNB5 GYS 170:2009 general requirements for the operation of laboratory-

David said GNBS has certified over 25 laboratories in Guyana to the standard and explained it is a very important certification as it helps the laboratories to streamline its operation considering aspects of safety and verification of the instruments.

President of the Essequibo Chambers of Commerce Sean Seewnarayan, who was present, congratulated the couple on attaining the certification. Seewnarayan has been a patient of the centre and attested to the quality services that are provided.
