At about 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Leading Fireman Hinds, who is attached to the Leonora Fire Station, travelled with the Police to Aliki, Essequibo River, to investigate a fire that had occurred there at 6:30 that morning.

The structure involved was a one-flat wooden building owned and occupied by 33-year-old Ozard Rushell, a release from the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service said.

Despite neighbours using buckets of water to extinguish the fire, the building and its contents were destroyed, leaving its occupant homeless.

Following investigations, it was determined that the fire was caused by a lit kerosene stove left unattended which came into contact with nearby combustible materials and ignited.
