When it comes to music in vehicles, there is anarchy at Albion

Dear Editor,

I am writing to you out of anger and frustration. On the night of November 12, 2022, at around 11:20 pm, I was awakened from my deep sleep by extremely loud music in Albion Front. You see, Editor, there is a bar (Food Court) located opposite Cropper school dam and on the weekends the bar is crowded with patrons. Around 11 pm, the patrons streamed out but remained on the street. Last night, November 12, one of the patrons opened the trunk of his car and began blasting music. I am of considerable age, but I have to say, Editor, that I thought the music was a loud explosion. I never heard such loud music in all my life.

Editor, here is the problem: we called the police at Albion and New Amsterdam to report the extremely loud music. We called New Amsterdam because we do not have confidence in the police at the Albion police station. In about ten minutes, a pickup truck drove out of the Albion police station, which is about two blocks away from the thunderous music.  The police officer stopped by the car playing the music. He did not step out of his vehicle. The music was lowered but not stopped. The police officer made a u turn back towards the Albion police station.  Editor, it is unbelievable, but the music was turned on full throttle again while the police officer was a few minutes away.

The residents of Albion do not have confidence in the police at Albion Police Station. As a minimum, that police officer should have ordered the complete stop of the music and possibly arrest the perpetrator and impound the car. The police officer, because he failed to perform his basic legal duty should be sanctioned. The behaviour of the police officer is not acceptable.

Editor, when it comes to music in vehicles, there is anarchy on the roads of Albion. The Albion police do not enforce the laws. And laws without enforcement are useless.

Needless to say, unless this matter is addressed, one may very well end up experiencing the protest against the police at Albion police station that occurred several years ago.

Editor, I simply do not understand why and how a bar is allowed to function and be very disruptive in the middle of a residential area. I hope this letter catches the eye of the Commissioner of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs.

Respectfully,

(Name and address supplied)
