Mr. Green should tell us of his role in the vicious attacks on strikers

Dear Editor,

In his letter “I suggest Hergash deals with the message and not the messenger” (Stabroek News, November 22, 2022), Elder Hamilton Green writes “Mr. Hergash’s obsession seems to be an assault on my character in my role while in office”.  In my letter of November 21, 2022 to which he responded, I presented an excerpt from a document that states “In one of the most vicious attacks on CCWU strikers Hamilton Green personally led the fray”.(Incidentally, the article was also carried in UCLA – Ufahamu: A Journal of African Studies, Guyana: The Faces Behind the Masks

Permalink https://escholarship.org/uc/item/9981d7rn) Is Mr. Green telling us that his “role while in office” was to lead “one of the most vicious attacks” on strikers?

I wonder what the leaders of Trade Unions in Guyana think about this and how would they react if a minister of the current Government were to take such a position. In relation to his suggestion that I deal “with the message and not the messenger”, I suggest he look at the comments to his letter by bloggers in Stabroek News. They have responded so eloquently there is no need for me to address it.  Suffice it to say, although I am not a Christian, I believe in what the Bible says “first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye”. Although he is an Elder, Mr. Green may benefit from this Biblical teaching should he heed it.

Sincerely,

Harry Hergash
