Corentyne accident leaves one dead

An accident along the Friendship Village, Corentyne Public Road on Wednesday has left one man dead after he allegedly ran across the road into the path of an oncoming motor car.

Dead is Parmanand Budhu, 35, of Lesbeholden North, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne Berbice.

The 1.30 pm accident, involved motor car, PAC 960 which was being driven by an 18-year-old salesman of Alness Village, Corentyne, and the now-deceased pedestrian.

According to a police report, the motor car was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of the said road allegedly at a fast rate when the “pedestrian who just exited a car on the western side ran from the west to east across the road into the path of the motor car where the driver try to avoid a collision, the left front portion of the motor car collided with the pedestrian.”

Budhu was picked up in an unconscious condition by the driver and public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver was held by the police and an investigation has since been launched.
