The relevant agencies are investigating the sinking of a barge transporting fuel and explosives in the Cuyuni River.
The barge, which belongs to Zijin Mining Inc – a Chinese company, sank on Sunday morning in the Cuyuni River in the vicinity of Tapir Landing, Region Seven while on its way to the Aurora Gold Mines.
Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Newell Dennison confirmed reports of the sinking and stated that all parties are working to address the issue.
Calls to the Ministry of Natural Resources for further information went unanswered.
