Sophia man held after CANU finds boat with 1,000 shotgun cartridges

Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers on Wednesday evening arrested a North Sophia man after it intercepted a boat with 1,000 shotgun cartridges aboard.

At the time of the interception of the vessel, CANU officers were patrolling along Crabwood Creek and Moleson Creek.

A number of occupants had just disembarked.

Some of the 12-gauge live cartridges that were found.

According to a CANU Facebook post, upon recognising the CANU team, some of the occupants fled into the nearby bushes. The officers gave chase and managed to apprehend one male along with the boat.

A subsequent search of the vessel revealed the large amount of shotgun ammunition.

Jerimiah Smith, an 18-year-old of Pike Street, North Sophia, who was recently arrested by CANU in relations to the discovery of 40 kilos of cannabis found in a motor vehicle along the Springlands Public Road, was arrested and handed over to the Springlands police along with the 1,000 12-gauge live cartridges.
