Brothers accused of pushing man overboard remanded over theft of boat

Twenty-five-year-old Brian Hermanstyne and Elden Hermanstyne, 24, both of Red Crescent Road, Mackenzie, who allegedly pushed a boat captain, Elick Alexander overboard, were last week charged with stealing the boat and remanded to prison.

Stabroek News contacted the Region Ten Commander, Superinten-dent Hugh Winter, who informed that the two brothers were charged last week with stealing the boat and remanded.

Alexander, 55,  went missing after he was allegedly pushed overboard by the two brothers two weeks ago. His body was recovered one day later.

According to the police report, Alexander of Silver City was allegedly pushed overboard at approximately 1 am on November 19, about 40 feet off the Wismar shore in Linden.

The man was the captain of a blue and white passenger boat that operates from the Wismar shore to the Mackenzie shore.

Enquiries revealed that the captain was on the Mackenzie shore awaiting passengers when Brian and Elden Hermanstyne boarded the boat for the Wismar shore.

While the boat was about 40 feet off the Wismar shore, Alexander was allegedly shoved out of the boat. The boat then proceeded north on the Demerara River.

The incident was reported to the police and Deputy Superintendent De Hearte, Inspector Lewis, Detective Sergeant Jacque, and other ranks visited the scene.

The police then launched a drone, and during an aerial search, the boat was located in the vicinity of Speightland with the two suspects.
