Football coach rescues Christ Church boy after vicious attack by fellow students

A Christ Church student was saved by a public-spirited citizen after being attacked by a group of fellow students last Wednesday.

The student is currently nursing multiple injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital, football coach Troy Wright yesterday said.

The student was picked up in a semi-conscious state from the Burnham Basketball Court at Carmichael and Middle streets, Georgetown by paramedics and rushed to the hospital.

Wright, in a telephone interview yesterday told Stabroek News that he was on his way to pick up his son from school when he noticed the teen being chased by others.

He stated that as he looked on he noticed one of the attackers cuffing the youth and he shouted at them to stop but he was ignored.

Wright said as he rushed to the student’s rescue he saw one of the attackers cuffing the boy in his nose and he fell to the ground. Immediately after, he related that one of the other assailants kicked the student in his head.

“I thought he dead there but I holler at the boy and say if you kick that boy one more time I will … your foot to scare him off. They see me coming and they ran,” the football coach stated.

According to him as he ran  to the child’s aid other persons who were passing stopped and managed to apprehend one of the students who was involved in the attack.

The coach stated that after seeing the child off to the hospital, he made a report to the police.

Wright also stated that he visited the school the following day and made a report of what transpired to the principal.

He is calling on the police and the Ministry of Education to conduct a thorough investigation and implement actions that would prevent such actions from recurring.

“I am a parent and this is like my own and I will make sure this story see justice. If I wasn’t there they might have murdered him… what kind of society we creating if this is the way these children behaving,” he lamented.
