Houston Estates gifts land to state for Mandela to Eccles bypass road

To allow for the construction of the Mandela to Eccles Bypass Road, the Vieira-owned Houston Estates gifted the state a swathe of land and the related transports were recently passed in the High Court according to the Official Gazette.

Sources close to the process told the Stabroek News that the lands were not sold but instead given, so that the development project could be undertaken.

One of the notices in the gazette stated as follows:

 “BY:- PLANTATION HOUSTON SUGAR ESTATES COMPANY LIMITED, a Company incorporated under the companies Act, Chapter 89:01 of the Laws of Guyana, whose registered address for service is situate at Houston Estates Compound, Houston, Georgetown, Guyana. TRANSPORT OF: FIRSTLY:- Plots “S10”, “S22”,“S24” and “S26” all being portions of Plantation Houston situate in the City of Georgetown in the County of Demerara, Republic of Guyana, being portion of land described in Transport No. 6 of 1904, the said Plots containing areas of 5.696 (five decimal six nine six) acres, 4.941 (four decimal nine four one) acres, 0.89 (nought decimal eight nine) of an acre and 0.4473 (nought decimal four seven three) of an acre respectively,” the Gazette publication of December  3rd states.

It informs that all of the lands are shown and defined on a plan by Dinesh D. Sukhai, a Sworn Land Surveyor. 

“SECONDLY:- Tract ‘R’3 being a portion of Plantation Rome situate in the City of Georgetown in the County of Demerara, in the Republic of Guyana, being portion of land described in Transport No. 6 of 1904, the said Tract containing an area of 0.50 (nought decimal five nought) of an acre,” it adds.

Those lands were also shown and defined on a plan by the same Land Surveyor.

The transports for other parcels of land were also listed.
