Canadian Pan American gold medalist Natasha Wodak and Kenyan Alex Ekesa won the women and men’s 10K races respectively at the Run Barbados Weekend Saturday.
Amid much fanfare and pageantry following a two-year hiatus, the event, which started and concluded at Barclays Park, was viewed and contested by a large gathering featuring several nationalities.
The 2019 gold medalist Wodak won in a time of 35:57 minutes ahead of Frenchwoman Felix Herimiarintsoa, who finished the event in 37:44. Carlie Robinson of Barbados rounded out the top three with a time of 43:18s.
Ekesa’s winning time was 34:30s. Barbadian Joshua Hunte finished second with a time of 35:24, while countryman Shamel Maynard ended on 37:16 to secure third place.
In the 5K event, Barbadian Finn Armstrong and Canadian Victoria Shaw triumphed in the men and women’s divisions respectively.
Armstrong romped to the top spot with a time of 17:28s while compatriot Luke McIntyre ended second in 17:43s. The third position was secured by Paul Freary of England in 18:04s.
Shaw won with a time of 20:19s with Barbadian Laila McIntyre and Lisa Marie Smith of England rounding out the top three, stopping the clock at 22:03s and 22:23s correspondingly.
