(Trinidad Guardian) Reena Ragoonath-Charles was a blessing who was snatched away too soon and the public was cheated of the opportunity to know her gentle spirit and kind soul. So said close acquaintances of the 43-year-old mother of one who was killed on Sunday night at her home at Ragoonath Street, South Bank Road, Kelly Village, Caroni. A police manhunt for a male relative continued yesterday.

Ragoonath-Charles was a janitor with the T&T Airports Authority (TTAA). Police were notified of the murder around 7.50 pm on Sunday after the victim’s 15-year-old son returned home from playing football and found her semi-nude body on the bedroom floor. Ragoonath-Charles was last seen alive around 5 pm on Sunday in the company of a close male relative who also works as a janitor with a company that provides cleaning services for Caribbean Airlines.

Eyewitnesses said when Ragoonath-Charles was found, blood was oozing from her mouth. Relatives who contacted the Emergency Health Services and the Caroni Police Station covered the body with a sheet to protect her modesty.

The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James yesterday but relatives declined to speak with reporters when approached. However, persons close to the family who spoke on condition of anonymity said Ragoonath-Charles did not deserve that kind of death as she was “too good a soul.”

“Nothing was ever too much for her to do for anyone,” one man said.

Another added: “She would give you the last plate of food she had and go without. She was a blessing. The public has lost out on knowing her.”

Police officers from Homicide Bureau, Region Three are continuing investigations.
