Dear Editor,
On the eve of the inauguration of a new president, a legend, whose name and life was synonymous with football, has passed, in a country which is football crazy.
Ailing for some time, the family recognised the end was near over the Christmas holidays.
It would have been a fitting tribute to this legend had Brazil won the just concluded World Cup. Nevertheless, his name, Pele, which put his country on the football map, and forms part of his legacy, will always be glorified and will live on for generations.
May he rest in peace.
