Two weapons stolen from Radar Security recovered

Six suspects including the alleged mastermind of the theft of weapons and ammunition from Radar Security and Supplies are currently in police custody and investigators made a breakthrough in the case yesterday following the recovery of two of the stolen weapons.

This was confirmed by Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum who told Stabroek News that among the suspects in custody is a security official from the company. He is the alleged mastermind of the crime.

Blanhum said as the investigation continues, one of the suspects took a team of investigators to a location in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown yesterday afternoon where two of the stolen weapons were recovered.

The theft  occurred between 10:00 hrs on Christmas Day (Dec 25 2022) and 18:30 hrs on Dec 26 2022, at Radar Security and Supplies’ office at Lot 79 Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

The police had said the security firm is owned by a 49-year-old businessman of Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

During the initial stage of the investigation, three persons including the firm’s weapons training officer and a guard were arrested and questioned. Stabroek News understands that searches were carried out at their homes but nothing of evidential value was found.

Reported stolen are two single-barrel shotguns valued at $950,000; four 9mm Taurus Pistols valued at $1,400,000; five Taurus .32 pistols valued at $1,425,000; twenty-five  12-gauge cartridges, five hundred and fifty-eight rounds of .32 ammunition and eighteen  9mm rounds of ammunition.

The police had said the weapons training officer found that the padlocks on the strongbox had been cut off. The chain that secured the firearms was also cut and the firearms mentioned were missing.
