We are being reminded as the number of infections increases that the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over. As we enter the fourth year, here is a look back, by the numbers, of COVID-19 infections in Guyana.
Covid infections for 2020-2022 totaled 72,164. There were 710, 723 tests conducted and 956, 678 vaccines administered. The highest number of infections was recorded in Region 4 with 50% followed by Regions 3 (12.23%) and 6 (9.12%).
For mortality rates, a total of 1,287 persons died from the Covid virus; by gender more males died (703 or 55%) as against females (584 or 45.38%). The age group 60+ sustained the highest mortality rates (64.57%), followed by the age group 40-59 with 27.27%.
