A fire started on Sunday around 9:00 pm at Vivaanta Ayurvedic Spa and Hair Salon of Lot 3 Church Street Georgetown but it was quickly put out.

The business is owned by Karan Mehra. Mehra told Stabroek News that he and some employees were about to leave the building when the security alerted them that there was a fire on the roof. They all rushed to the area and noticed that the fire had begun in the laundry room. Mehra said they immediately called the Fire Service but before its arrival, neighbours and other passersby successfully assisted in extinguishing the fire. The Fire Service arrived 10 minutes later.

Mehra said he was pleased that no one was injured and that it was not a major fire. He also added that the business is still operational even though a part of it was damaged.

He advised that every business owner take all the necessary precautions and to always be on the alert for possible signs of danger. Mehra  took the opportunity to extend a special thank you to all the public-spirited persons who assisted in extinguishing the fire and also the Guyana Fire Service for their quick response.
