We are seeing a resuscitation in domestic disputes

Dear Editor,

The New Year has greeted us with murders, accidents and several maternal deaths. While all of the circumstances surrounding those deaths are unfortunate, we are seeing a resuscitation, especially in domestic disputes.  Wives and ex-wives are retaliating against domestic abuse.  The good book reminds us that provocation kills.  I have said before, we keep losing our people in an unnecessary way and something has to be done to curtail these sort of violent behaviour.

Why are we angry, are rather, what is fueling this anger to the extent persons have to lash out violently?  We need to go back to the drawing board and focus on counseling.  We need to establish conversations that would aid in solving our problems.  Each one of us have problems, but while some of us agree to disagree and move on, others harbour bitterness and anger. All I can say is that I am sorry. Lives are lost every day and nothing is being done to at least minimize its consistent occurrences.

I hope the religious organizations, the Ministry of Human Services and NGOs have a plan to reach out to society to address domestic violence because the news coming out of Guyana is not pretty. Now another woman is going to be held accountable for her ex’s death.

Sincerely,

Yannason Duncan
