Guyanese man dies after Canada accident

A 26-year-old Guyanese succumbed on Tuesday, days after he was involved in an accident in Ontario, Canada.

The dead man has been identified as Andy Persaud.

The accident occurred on Thursday January 5 at Highway 401, eastbound at County Road 25 Ontario, Canada.

Reports are that Persaud worked as a truck driver.         

Stabroek News understands that Persaud left home in a pick-up that was pulling a trailer.

Information reaching this newspaper revealed that while he was on his way to work, a truck driver allegedly fell asleep and crashed into Persaud, knocking his vehicle off the road and into a ditch.

Persaud was rushed to the hospital. He suffered from cardiac arrest and lack of oxygen to his brain causing brain damage. He succumbed around 2.30 pm on Tuesday while receiving medical attention.

Persaud was the sole breadwinner for his family. He got married in 2018 and migrated to Canada about two years ago.

A Go Fund Me page has since been organised to help the family raise funds to transport his body to Guyana for burial.

The goal is to raise US$20,000.
