Nandu, Joseph, Motie shine on opening day

The first of two Guyana Harpy Eagles practice matches got underway yesterday at the National Stadium, Providence with Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie leading the way with the ball while Matthew Nandu resisted with a gritty half-century.

Chanderpaul’s XI won the toss and inserted Permaul’s XI who were bowled out for 261 in 86 overs.

Chanderpaul’s XI duly closed the day on three without loss.

Chanderpaul’s XI got off to a solid start with Nandu leading the way. The left-handed former West Indies youth captain carved 12 boundaries during his over three-hour innings as he top scored with 78 from 147 balls.

Nandu added 60 for the first wicket with national youth player, Rampertab Ramnauth, who made 27 from 59 balls before he was dismissed by Motie.

Motie also broke the second-wicket partnership of 86 between Nandu and Tevin Imlach who made 33 from 79 balls. Imlach stroked three fours and one six before he was stumped by Anthony Bramble.

Ther were also cameos from Shamar Yearwood whose 36 came from 97 balls and Ronaldo Alimohamed who chipped in with 34 after hitting two fours and three sixes.

Gudakesh Motie

Alimohamed shared a 43-run union with Yearwood for the seventh wicket.

Joseph made light work of the lower order to end with 4-30 from eight overs while Motie returned 3-38 from 16 overs. Antony Adams also picked up 1-15 from nine overs.

Currently, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chandrapaul Hemraj are at the crease on two and one respectively after two overs.

The action continues today at 9.30 hours.
