Norton St man charged with abusing cops

Paul Waterman, a 50-year-old man of Norton Street, Lodge, who allegedly abused traffic ranks, was yesterday slapped with several charges, including careless driving, failure to comply with police directives, abusive language and disorderly behaviour.

According to a police press release, Waterman was caught on camera verbally assaulting traffic ranks. He appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #7 before Magistrate Clive Nurse where the following charges were all read to him, and he pleaded ‘guilty’ and was fined as follows:

1. Careless driving: He was fined $25,000 or 5 weeks imprisonment.

2. Failure to comply with a police directive: Fined $20,000 or 5 weeks imprisonment.

3. Motor vehicle causing obstruction: Fined $25,000 or 5 weeks imprisonment.

Additionally, at around 2 pm yesterday, Waterman also appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #3 before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs, to answer the offences of use of abusive language and disorderly behaviour.

Both charges were read to him and he pleaded ‘not guilty’ to both offences and was granted $10,000 bail on each charge.  The matters were both adjourned to 30th January 2023 for disclosure.

Waterman is scheduled to appear in court on today to answer to an additional charge of use of indecent language.
