Police retrieve unlicensed gun, ammo from known drug offender

Police ranks in Essequibo are now looking for Davenanand Dwarka called ‘Snakey’ after they retrieved an unlicensed firearm off him on Sunday morning at 02:30 hours but during which he managed to escape via a nearby trench.

According to a press release from the Guyana Police Force, ranks were conducting an Anti-Crime patrol on the Henrietta Public Road, Essequibo Coast. The ranks were in a GPF vehicle proceeding east on the northern side of the public road when they saw Dwarka in the vicinity of Jaigobin Hotel with an object projecting out from his waist.

One of the ranks shouted at Dwarka but instead he ran into the hotel’s parking lot. Two of the ranks gave chase and Dwarka fell into some mud and while getting up, the firearm fell from his hand. One of the ranks tried to grab him but he managed to elude the rank and jumped into a nearby trench and made good his escape.

The firearm was retrieved by the police, and when examined, was found to be a 9mm SIG SAUER P226 with one magazine containing three (3) matching live rounds of ammunition. Efforts are currently being made to have Dwarka arrested since he is known to the police and is currently before the court on a charge for possessing 2.277 grams of cannabis.
