‘Hot Skull’ opens fire on Berbice lawmen

A man known as `Hot Skull’ of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, last evening  opened fire at lawmen who had received information and attempted to nab him along the Corentyne highway.

‘Hotskull’ is reportedly wanted in the Berbice area for a series of armed robberies.

According to information gathered, police received intelligence and planned an operation at the location last night around 9.30 pm along the Number 19 Highway.

Stabroek News was told, that a roadblock was set up but after noticing police the wanted man, who was in a black vehicle, opened fire which led to lawmen returning fire.

The man then fled the area. A police source last evening told this newspaper that it is suspected that the man was injured but fled the area.

Furthermore, the source noted that the suspect’s firearm was found at the location.  

In a release today, the police said that an intelligence-led operation by ranks of Police Regional Division #6  led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the discovery of one  Lorcin .380 Pistol along with one magazine and two live rounds, and the seizing of a black Toyota wagon motor car yesterday about 20:30 hrs.

Acting on information received ranks went to the Lewis Manor #19 Public Road, where they intercepted a black Toyota Fielder Wagon driven by a 32-year-old man from Lad Lane, New Amsterdam, and the three occupants. On seeing the police the car made a U-turn heading west and one of the occupants exited the car and discharged rounds toward the police. The police returned fire and gave chase on foot where they saw bloodstains and found the firearm magazine and ammunition.

However, the suspect O’neil Benn c/d Hot Skull escaped into the cane field.

The three suspects are in custody assisting with the  investigation.
