Thoughts for synergies between Guyana, Jamaica

Dear Editor,

Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali’s recent Al Jazeera Network interview seen on YouTube commands our attention. It is clear as the noon-day sun that the North Star towards Guyana’s Boundless Galaxy of opportunity ought to be embraced. Jamaica’s Minister Aubyn Hill’s led 60-member trade mission delegation to Guyana scheduled for January 23- 28, 2023 must be cognizant that missed opportunity caused regret. Hence preparation enables the seizing of opportunity.

Some thoughts and ideas are set out as follows:

● Develop and implement a 30-year Line of Credit and Scheme of Arrangement

● Characterizing this facility would be a Fort Knox type Internal Control Mechanism(ICM).

This will ensure there is no erosion of trust on which successful businesses are built.

Main elements of this endeavour will be the development of port facilities at Rocky Point Clarendon, Jamaica, exclusively for the Guyana-Jamaica trading.

The port would handle mainly red sand and lumber from Guyana, and from Jamaica to Guyana, alum, white lime and gypsum for fertilizer production etc Motivation for the aforementioned thoughts and ideas emanates from the sterling and

monumental contribution to the pinnacle of the Jamaica sugar industry by Guyanese citizens O.M.

Henzell, Zynul Bacchus, Derrick Crossbie, Eustace Callendar, and the list goes on.

Additionally, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo’s  heartfelt handshake on the Denbigh Showground (Clarendon, Jamaica) while President continues to resonate.

Yours faithfully,

David Crossbourne
