A man yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with drug trafficking

Jamal McQueen of Albouystown was yesterday read a drug trafficking charge by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly   who remanded him to prison. According to the charge, McQueen on January 23 at Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, had in his possession 89.53 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The court heard that the defendant was at his house in Breda Street when the police carried out a raid at about 12.30 hours based on intelligence received.

During the search McQueen was said to be lying in a hammock where a bulky black plastic bag containing multiple other bags were seen. A further search of the bags uncovered a quantity of a creamish brick-like substance suspected to be cocaine. As a result, the police told the man of their suspicion to which he replied, “Is my lil hussle.”

After the facts were read, the defendant’s attorney, Adrian Thompson, argued that his client does not live at the address where the raid was carried out, but rather, resides in Albouystown and that he was just visiting a friend.

He contended that McQueen was not the only person at the house while noting that there was another male who escaped. He also refuted the man’s abovementioned quoted statement and insisted that his client never uttered those words to the police.  However, taking into consideration the type of narcotic and its quantity, Magistrate Daly remanded the defendant to prison and adjourned the matter until February 8.
