Charles fails, but Victorians win

DHAKA, Bangladesh, CMC – West Indies batsman Johnson Charles failed to catch afire, but Comilla Victorians still beat Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 yesterday.

Charles, batting at five, made only nine, but the Victorians, led by a typically enterprising half-century from Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan successfully chased 157 for victory in the 35th match of the tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Rizwan, opening the batting, smashed five fours and two sixes in 61 from 47 balls and shared 76 with Bangladesh international Mossadek Hossain before he was caught behind of Mrittunjoy Chowdhury with 25 needed from the last 20 balls.

Hossain ended on 37 not out and formalised the result with six balls remaining to hand the Victorians their fifth consecutive win in seven matches, placing them third in the seven-team standings on 14 points.

Earlier, Afif Hossain hit the top score of 66 from 49 balls and opener Usman Khan supported with 52 from 41 balls, and the Challengers – last in the standings on four points – posted 156 for seven from their 20 overs.
