Transport Sports Club, Bel Air Rubis and Malteenoes Sports Club all registered wins yesterday in the Georgetown Cricket Association/Atlantic Marine Supplies Suzuki Motorcycles second-division T20 tournament.

At the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bel Air Rubis defeated Sophia by nine wickets. Sophia won the toss and batted but could only manage 92 all out in 18.5 overs. Bel Air needed just 13.4 overs to reach 96 for one.

Shamal Angel made 46 for Transport

Sophia’s batsmen could not get started and showed signs of rust except for Kish Da Silva who top scored with 35 from 22 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. Ray Skeete was the only other batsman to reach double figures, scoring an 18-ball 14 and hitting one four and one six.

Ajay Gainda was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-12. He was supported by Travis Persaud (2-19) and Mahindra Jeenarine (2-25).

When Bel Air batted, Andrew Samaroo led from the front with 31 not out. His 30-ball innings featured two fours and a six and he got support from Rajendra Singh who carved four boundaries on his way to 29 not out from 23 balls. Andy Lall had retired hurt earlier on 17.

Over at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Malteenoes eased to a nine-wicket win over Third Class. Third Class won the toss and decided to take first strike and were bundled out for 75 in 19.4 overs. Malteenoes needed only 52 balls to reach 78 for one.

Ryan Seecharan top scored with 31 from 26 balls while Gopaul Ramgobin managed 11 from 24 balls. No other batsman reached double figures and extras accounted for 10 runs. Nichosie Barker took 4-10 and Marcus Watkins 2-16.

Judel McAllister piloted the chase for Malteenoes with 36 not out from 27 balls, hitting four fours and one six. He shared in a 70-run stand with Jeremiah Scott who made 33 not out from 19 balls. Scott smashed two sixes and three boundaries.

At the Queen’s College ground, Transport secured a 63-run win over the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). Transport, batting first after winning the toss, posted 178 for six in 20 overs. GDF reached 115 for eight at the end of their allotted overs.

Berbician, Shamal Angel, top scored for Transport with a vital 46 from 31 balls. He clubbed three sixes and five fours while adding 52 for the opening partnership with Adrian Hinds who made 24. Hinds’ 19-ball cameo saw him hitting two fours and one six before Ameer Inshan (2-20) removed him and Alvin Mohabir off of successive deliveries.

Rafael Singh supported with 30 while cameos also came from Azeem Azeez (20), Riyad Latif (17 not out) and Myhiem Khan (16). Extras tallied 25 towards the total.

For GDF, Anthony Smith was the other bowler to find success, taking 2-22.

In the chase, skipper Leon Andrews top scored with 30 while Ishan returned to make 24 but only Randy Lindore managed to reach 16 as the army men struggled against Akeem Redman, who bagged 4-22. Redman got support from Dave Mohabir who took 2-19.
