Tournament heavyweights Sparta Boss, Bent Street, Back Circle, and Gold is Money punched their respective tickets to the quarterfinal round when the inaugural edition of the Rock Futsal Championship resumed Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium.
A penalty shoot-out decided the Sparta Boss and Vengy encounter, as the former prevailed 3-1 after full-time ended 3-3. The experienced Sheldon Shepherd registered a double in the 22nd and 37th minute, whilst Jermin Junior found the back of the net in the fourth minute.
For the loser, Joheis Mendonza recorded a brace in the 17th and 34th minute alongside a David Escobar strike in the 13th minute.
Bent Street squeaked past emerging outfit Beterverwagting (BV) 1-0 compliments of a Tyrese Dennis effort in the 11th minute.
Back Circle displayed their championship credentials after mauling Leopold Street 9-0. The quartet of Stephon McLean [first and second minute], Stephon Reynolds [third and 25th], Simeon Moore [14th and 28th], and Shemar Koulen [sixth and 26th] registered respective doubles, whilst Akil Plass sealed the score-line with a conversion in the 30th minute.
On the other hand, Gold is Money bested Kitty FC 2-0 compliments of goals from Darren Benjamin and Dexroy Adams in the 12th and 30th minute respectively.
Meanwhile, BV and Vengy progressed to the quarterfinal round as the two best losers. The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive one motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will receive one motorcycle on the night of the final. Below features the complete list of results and fixtures.
