Stern response was needed from police on attack against Trevor Jameer

Dear Editor,

Hopetown farmer Trevor Jameer was doused with gasoline and set afire on the 17th of February because he assisted the police in removing a car torched following an accident; on the day following there was no statement from the Guyana Police Force addressing this barbaric criminal action, instead we were bombarded by images of the Acting Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken dapperly dressed in an all-white outfit directing his energies towards the preparation of the GPF Mash band.

While I have no doubt the police are working towards the capture of the perpetrator of this heinous crime, one would expect some level of cognizance from a Commissioner of Police of the dangerous direction this crime points to and the need for a stern response by way of words and actions; sadly the Actor in the Commissioner’s chair chooses to cheer and gyrate to less serious rhythms while ignoring the need to provide leadership in the area of Law and Order.

It may be prudent to remind all that Mr Hicken’s retirement is mere months away and the search for a Law and Order COP should begin in earnest.

Sincerely,
