Lima Sands teen remanded over husband’s murder

The teenaged wife of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, who allegedly stabbed her husband on Sunday morning was remanded to prison yesterday over his murder.

A police release stated that the accused was arrested on Sunday for the offence of murder, committed on Anthony Shivlall called ‘Davie’, 27, a labourer of Lima Sands, which occurred at McNabb, Lima Sands

Reshona Moses, an 18-year-old housewife, appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, via Zoom before Magistrate Crystal Lambert where the charge was read to her. She was not required to plead.

Bail was refused and she was remanded to prison until March 28.

According to police, the incident occurred at 02:00 hours on Sunday after the couple had an argument while attending a birthday party for the wife’s grandmother, Bernadine Williams, at her home on Saturday night.

Williams said that after the argument earlier Saturday night, her grand-daughter left and went home. The celebration continued, she said and she was dancing in the yard around 02:00 hrs, when she saw her granddaughter return. She said the girl asked for her husband and she told her that he was inside in the lower flat of the house.

“She went into the house and spent a while and then I check for them and I saw Shivlall lying on the ground and my granddaughter was over him,” Williams said. She saw her stabbing him with a knife to his chest area, after which she ran east of the lower flat, exited and escaped.

The police were summoned to the scene and examined the body. Detectives observed one stab wound to the victim’s left chest area, one stab wound to his lower right chest area, and one to his left hand. The teenage wife was arrested at her mother’s house at McNabb.

The man’s father, Ranold Shivlall, said he last saw his son on Saturday evening and at the time appeared in high spirits. He said that the couple had lived together for two years and that the wife appeared to be a quiet person
