Mr. Hinds’ ‘we must forget the past’ requires no further comment

Dear Editor,

As we wind down Black History Month, I feel compelled to refer to a letter published in Stabroek News, dated February 21, written by Harry Hergash. He talked about Black History Month and said that Former President and Prime Minister, presently Ambassador, Mr. Samuel Hinds is one of the most outstanding citizens, not only from Eastern Mahaicony, but of the entire country. Mr. Harry Hergash is entitled to his views.

As an Afro-Guyanese, I can only honour those who appreciated the struggle, suffering and sacrifices of our ancestors. Speaking at an Emancipation Day ceremony where the circumstances of slavery and the need for reparation was made when Mr. Hinds took to the podium, he said ‘we must forget the past.’ There is no need for further comment.

Sincerely,

Eric Moseley, MS
