He added that the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security along with the Child Care Protection Agency will intervene along the line as the matter is a sensitive one.

Simon confirmed that the baby is currently in medical care.

A police release on Tuesday stated that the Mahaicony police station was alerted by an anonymous caller at about 14.45 hours to go to Recess, Mahaicony where ranks found a newborn baby in a multi-coloured gift bag. The infant was taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital for examination and subsequently admitted for observation.

According to police, acting on information received, Sergeant Williams and a party of police ranks ventured to the area in Recess where they saw a group gathered by the seaside. Williams proceeded into the bush and picked up the baby boy. The fact that the baby was a newborn was attested to by the presence of the umbilical cord. The sergeant wrapped the baby in a towel and transported it to the hospital. The infant was examined by a doctor who pronounced him in good health.

The Child Care and Protection Unit was subsequently contacted.
