Mahaicony cocaine trafficking accused remanded

A man was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared at the George-town Magistrate court charged with possession of 2.144kg of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Peter Gordon, 31-years-old of Fellowship, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara  appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Clennan and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until the 29th March, 2023.

The narcotics that was found

The charge read that on the February 27th last Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers intercepted a motor car in the vicinity of Hill Street between D’Urban and Norton streets, Lodge bearing license number PZZ 2006. At the time, the prosecutor said that Gordon was the lone occupant in the motor car.

Officers indicated to the defendant of their suspicion that he was transporting narcotics, to which the defendant gave certain oral statements, and a search was carried out on the front passenger’s seat where two brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis were recovered.

Gordon was arrested and taken to CANU’s Head-quarters, along with the suspected narcotic. CANU stated that the substance was tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 2.144kg (five pounds). The prohibited substance carries a street value of GUY $643,200.
