PPP does not have clean hands in relation to state property

Dear Editor,

The destruction of the People’s National Congress’ (PNC) building at Lethem while experiencing public outcries does have the support of some in society. It is most unfortunate when right or wrong is only deemed right or wrong depending on who stands to benefit and not based on universally acceptable principles of right or wrong. It has not been refuted that the Lethem building has been occupied by the Party who has been operating there unhindered for 46 plus years. To argue that the building was on state land is a moot point.

Let us for instance examine the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) – there is a building that forms the party’s office operation, located at Industrial Area, MacKenzie, Linden, that was constructed in the 1970s as the transmission station to transmit power from the bauxite company at Linden to the national grid, i.e., the Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara. After the PPP came to office in 1992, they subsequently converted and occupied the transmission station, to their party office and has occupied that building. The building (which has some appearance of modification) and land belonged to the state. Knowing the PPP, it would come as no surprise if they have since transferred both land and building to the party. This is merely one piece of evidence to show the PPP comes with no clean hands and intent when it comes to occupying and claiming state land and property.

Given the foregoing the PPP’s action in Lethem was not only malicious but wicked and intended to continue sowing seeds of discord in society. In such an atmosphere, only the Jagdeo/Ali cabal stands to gain. What the nation was awakened to on Thursday is not only unfortunate but symbolises the depth to which the regime will go to destroy. All need to be concerned about the regime’s intensification of illegally destroying people’s properties under the watchful eyes of members of the Guyana Police Force.  We should be deeply troubled that the Guyana Police Force is allowing President Ali to use this law enforcement arm of the state to execute illegal and dastardly acts on the citizenry.

Sincerely,

Lincoln Lewis
