Persaud-McKinnon eligible to contest Secretary General post at GOA’s EGM

Upon review, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon has been deemed eligible to contest the Electoral General Meeting (EGM) of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) in two days.

According to an official correspondence seen by this publication yesterday, the Attorney-at-Law’s submission was reviewed by Returning Officer, Emily Dodson and she was given the green light to contest the post of Secretary General.

The newly elected President of Archery Guyana will go against Dr. Karen Pilgrim and Attorney-at-Law, Keavon Bess for the executive position.

The new revelation comes in the aftermath of the long standing executive member of the Guyana National Rifle Association being deemed ineligible to contest due to article 14.4.3 “have been at the time of first elected a member of a constituent member for at least two (2) years”).

Persaud-McKinnon wrote the following in an email to current Secretary General of the body, Hector Edwards…

Dear Mr. Hector Edwards,

I refer to your notice dated March 7, 2023 in which you deemed me ineligible to contest the position of Secretary-General due to article 14.4.3 “have been at the time of first elected a member of a constituent member for at least two (2) years”).

I wish to inform you that I am not just affiliated with and a member of Archery Guyana. In fact, I was not even nominated by Archery Guyana but in my own capacity. I am a member of a number of constituent members.

Please find attached to this email a letter from the Honorary Secretary of the Guyana NRA, which is one of your acknowledged constituent members. I trust that this letter of proof will suffice to bring to an end your questions as to my eligibility.

In the circumstances, I would be grateful if you can recall your Notice and have it declared I’m in fact eligible as we all know I am.

Respectfully,

Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon
