Bring meaningful change and improvement to animal welfare in Guyana

Dear Editor,

It melts my heart to see this initiative, a Lemonade Sale by little Zayd in aid of the animal shelter. Zayd will surely grow up to be a human with compassion towards animal. I’m writing this letter today with a heavy heart and grave concern for the welfare of animals in Guyana. I’ve been actively involved and working for better treatment of animals for the past nine years and I would love to continue doing so to bring meaningful change and improving animal welfare in Guyana.

There are many issues affecting us, the people who work tirelessly day in and day out for animals. One of the issues I’d like to highlight is spaying and neutering, in the most humane methods proven, to curb overpopulation of stray animals and help to reduce cruelty to animals.

There’s an outcry by groups, activists and rescuers for Vets to be trained in this area so that they can provide better services. I am pleading for the animals who are suffering terribly due to this. Another issue I would like to bring to your attention is the inhumane treatment and health of the horses and donkeys who are being beaten and overworked daily. I would like these issues to be addressed.

Sincerely,

Genevieve Beepat
