Our society is broken

Dear Editor,

I do hope investigating ranks who are currently probing the death of the 88 year-old woman who was found dumped in an empty yard next to where she lived catches the culprit very soon. Something is not right with some of the people in our society and we are having a complexity of problems we have to contend with on a daily basis.  Our women are dying, our grandmothers are dying and some of our children, too. It is mind boggling and it is getting worst every day.

Editor, it is indeed sad to read about an 88 years old being dumped in a yard, for that fact, life has lost its value. Every day we read about the inhumane way in which someone met their demise, and, in most of the circumstances, could have been avoided and are uncalled for. How did that happen and who is the culprit? Further, why did they do it and what have they accomplished?

These sorts of stories are making it more difficult for people to live in their own homes. Our society has broken down and everyone is too busy to try to fix it. Can it be fixed or rather can the problems that we face in our society, can it be contained? We, as a people, need to ask ourselves these questions, and likewise, work hand in hand to address and alleviate same. We need to mull our ideas together in other for them to birth workable solutions.

Editor we as a people need to go back to the drawing board and fix the problems in our society.  One way forward is to rekindle the love we had for our brothers and sisters, the love we shared with our neighbors and strangers, the live we offered to our brothers and sisters who are in need. Our focus always must, and should be, one to care for each other. Let go of hate, anger and disgusted and allow the breath of love to enter our being. This is possible, if we try.

Sincerely,

Yannason Duncan
