With questions left unanswered as to what may have happened to Canada-based Guyanese woman, Roma Dookeran, the Guyana Police Force through the Major Crimes Unit has now held a taxi driver in connection with her murder.

The 68-year-old woman was found semi-nude on the Leguan Foreshore just over a week ago after being missing for some time.

According to reports, it was related by her family that Dookeran was dropped off at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri by her nephew to head back to Canada after conducting a week of business in Guyana.

It was on March 15th, Dookeran was expected to return home after staying at Perth Village on the Essequibo Coast. However, she didn’t board the flight and telephone calls yielded no answers.

Other efforts were also made but all were futile. The police force later discovered the body of the woman on Leguan. She was positively identified by relatives.

An investigation was launched and it was discovered through CCTV footage that Dookeran never made it on the plane but however took a cab from the airport.  She then headed to a city hotel where she stayed overnight and then disappeared. The taxi driver she was last seen in contact with is being questioned.
