Fawazz McRae, a 27-year-old businessman/contractor of Lot 1231 Central’s Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was on Wednesday charged with the murder of 32-year old Police Sergeant Jermaine Semple, who was shot in the head.

The accused appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Wanda Fortune, where the murder charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison after bail was denied.

Semple, his brother Dervon Semple and cousin McRae, were at the Crown and Anchor Grill and Bar when a fight erupted between the Semple and his brother.

McRae attempted to separate them and an argument then ensued between the victim and McRae, prompting McRae to take out his licensed handgun, a .32 pistol and discharge two rounds in Semple’s direction. One struck him in the head and he later succumbed to his injuries on Friday March 17 at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

McRae was arrested on March 12 and initially charged on March 15 with attempting to commit murder. On March 29, the attempted murder charge was withdrawn and the charge of murder was instituted.

The matter has been adjourned to April 14.
